SEO Sales Copy Software - Just Add Words
I used to believe that there was a, "Do It For Your" over the counter software you could buy for sales copy. I held onto that myth for quite some time. I used to really want to believe that. But as the years grew by and I grew with my marketing and business these tools seemed small to me. After awhile I stopped paying close attention to what they could do.
There was a few that made me stop and turn my head like, Do It For You Sales Letters by Yanik Silver. That was where I first started to poke around. I ordered it and was somewhat fascinated with the idea of getting my solutions figured out for me. I printed out some of these letters and started to sell with them initially. But I did not hit that magic "spark reaction" that I got as when I started to use my own sales copy years later.
Then there was a sales copy software from Brett McFall called Burpies which really got my attention. I actually used that one and liked it. I was creating solid 7 step sales letters off of it and these letters were pre-formated for the web and even gave me an HTML template that I could modify. I thought this was pretty impressive.
The Quest Continued For An Amazing 5 Years....
Along the way I found a program from the Internet Marketing Center that allowed you to put in your keywords and phrases into it and voila... you would get a sales letter! The program turned out to be somewhat low in demand. The only way you could get it was to order some of their larger Internet marketing packages then they would throw it in.... So to get to this puny $299 software I would have to invest somewhere in the 8 grand range.... Hmmm..... sorry guys.....
I decided to learn how to do it myself.....
But where could I start? This seemed to be a daunting task. The idea of getting into the field of copywriting was overwhelming and dark and there was no torch to lead the way. I had absolutely no idea of what I was getting myself into.
Where would I start? How could something going? And who would help me when I get stuck?
I started buying anything I could get my hands on about copywriting from Ebay of all places. There was some gems there to an extent and it was certainly cheap. I hauled in a lot of junk too but you have to start somewhere. Many of these courses I still have today.
INTERESTING NOTE: The Dan Kennedy Copywriting material I bought here was very interesting because I now think that it was bootlegged material. After going through this trauma I realize now that who ever created these recordings used a tape player because I picked up a lot of air conditioning sounds, lighting sounds and other high pitched frequencies that blurs out the voices at times. All in all I was able to pull some things out of these recordings and it led to other discoveries.
The Kings Bookstore in Detroit, Michigan
This place is a hidden gem when it comes to old books. Although it is hardley hidden. You will drive smack into it if you are coming off of M10. Its the big blue warehouse with a big brick exterior. It has the words KINGS BOOK STORE written right on it so you cannot miss it. You will need to either crawl up the stairs, (there is no air in the stairway) or travel up the creepy freight elevator to get to the advertising section. Once you get to the third floor you will find out of print advertising books that contain samples of some of the best copywriting ever done in the last 100 years.
I purchsed a lot of books from this place and I can say that was the basis of my education. I spent a good $200 here and got a lot more meat from here than from other places. Then, you have to hear this, I picked up this one book for $2 bucks and it was a simple guidebook to write effective sales copy. It was handed out to U.S. troops during WWII should they ever want to pursue a career in the field. I was astounded with this book. There was a time when sales copy was alive and well respected as a field of earning a living in this country.
The other thing I found was peculiar was that this was a well written book. In fact, it is much better than the many books I had purchased in my quest of learning direct response marketing. It was a bit more technical but it clearly laid out the foundations on how to write effective copy. I have not seen many of these out there so I assume these are hard to find.
As far as ads go. I liked the ones I found in old Popular Mechanics issues from the 50's. These are incredible ads and are worth studying. They will cost you $5 bucks an issue but you need to pick up a couple of these and just start studying the ad copy and the mechanics of what it takes to get solid communication across.
** To sum things up I never did find the Golden Goose - a sales copy software that did everything for me -- I ended up doing a lot of this hard work myself. This has been adventatgeous for me becaus I have been able to test what I do and get in front of the right people. Here is the important thing. My sales copy has been tested and I now have sales letters that work and continue to get response from my clients. As a result of learning how to write my own sales copy I have a solid control on what is going to work for my business. Some of my control pieces have an 87% response rate on them.... that is to say I can close with them 87% of the time.
This is a skill worth having.

Royal Oak Businesses Will Master The Web This Feb at WCCC
There was a special live session scheduled in January but it was cancelled due to the heavy snows. The overall all effect was one of pure disappointment. Cantu just learned recently that a handful of eager Metro Detroit entrepreneurs showed up anyways even though the event was cancelled according to program director Mark Lange.
“I’m sorry for all the great people to come out and support a great night of learning and profit building. I promise to over deliver to those people and my many fans in Metro Detroit” says Ted Cantu. “With the Ann Arbor News and Eccentric Newspapers going under you need a friend like me now more than ever before – I will have many wealth building strategies to share!” adds Cantu.
Cantu represents a new wave of online marketing and Metro Detroit business – joining the ranks of Ed King and Mark Maupin. Cantu has been featured in numerous press releases in Detroit Free Press, Public Television Channel 56, and is the co-author of, “The 30 Day Total Business Makeover” and even has a new book on the way. Ted Cantu is the veteran advertising agent from the mean streets of Chicago and New York City where he served as an Art Director. Past clients include Oprah, Capital Records, Coca Cola, Citibank, NBC and the WWF.
Cantu is notorious for getting a company on page 1 of Google numerous times. He has put companies on page 1 numerous times, (as many as 10 out of the top 10) he claims. He is also famous for getting web commercials in front of 27,000 fans in just a few hours. Ted Cantu has placed companies on page 1 in as little as 15 minutes. Cantu has perfected various techniques to get the word out there that is not dependant on Yellow Pages, radio or expensive television spots.
He will be focusing on showing Metro Detroit how to, “Market, Sell and Profit In ANY Economy!” Cantu has literally written himself paychecks in over 50+ industries including everything from beauty products, wholesale, imports and exports, music, entertainment, dental, chiropractic, financial, self development, authors, health, real estate, mortgages, automotive and more.

ORANGE BEETLE COPYWRITING
Alan Forrest Smith, (The Orange Beetle) is an absolute genius when it comes to copywriting. For those who are not familiar he has created a serious buzz over the UK now for quite a few years and for good reason. His work really grabs you by the lapels and literally shakes you off the floor.
Now he is back with the usual suspects in the world of online money making - Brett McFall and Stephen Pierce and are once again making history. The seats are a bit expensive but entirely worth the venture. Clients that spend time in the Beetle camp walk off with a treasure trove of information and customer generating techniques.
The notion to suddenly pack up my bags and scoot down there has crossed my mind more than a few times. These guys know something we don't in the USA. They have created something of a sensation in Australia, London, and in the Internet World Summit.
Quite interestingly enough they were writing sales copy to be intertwined with SEO pages before anywhere else. I heard them talk about secrets of writing good web copy for the search engines on a study course I purchased over a couple of years ago. Great stuff. Worth the price.
There are new DVD's out and a videos of the lessons that were taught in case you miss the boat. Here is something that is noteworthy.... Dan Kennedy is no longer taping his events for sale because of all the bootlegging that is happening on Ebay. I can't say I blame him. I do know that if you want top, relevant information that this stuff does not come cheap.
Beetle is one of my favorite copywriters for a number of reasons. One good reason is that he is able to close down a niche market at 87% !!! He is also great for cultivating a strong following for a particular product or service. Its not dry and its never boring.

HARDCORE MARKETING HAS CHANGED
Hardcore Direct Marketing Has Changed Its Name.....
Shortly after the new year I changed the name of this blog completely to fit into my new web format. I recently changed the name of my company to reflect what I am doing currently. www.911copywriters.com will carry the new #1 SEO Michigan graphics and services.
We are doing more mobile media now with podcasting, blogging, and seo work. The "Hardcore Direct Marketing" sounded a little too brutal so we softened it up a bit.
More to come...

SEO Copywriting VS Copywriting
WRITING FOR BOTH AUDIENCES
There has been a serious rethink of how to approach copywriting in the recent weeks. Formatting your copywriting to fit into your SEO approach is becoming essential for good rankings. You need to make your writing accessible to the people who read it and also the search engine spiders.
Avoid the mistake of writing strictly for search engine spiders. You can spot these pages, (even if they are highly ranked) by looking at how the TITLE tag reads. I was looking up a niche market in my home state, which is Michigan, and found a company that placed that word in their title no less than five times. They can get away with it if they back up each instance with a service that this company provides but it doesn't read well as a sentence.
Still, these pages can outrank you if your not careful. So its important to look up to see where your competition sits in your local market. You can out rank a large majority of these pages for a number of reasons.....
1. A lot of web sites have overall page rankings of 16% - 60%
2. The same web sites have lots of poorly ranked link partners
3. A lot of your competitors have poor relations between the title and body copy
You would be surprised to see how quickly you can outrank these pages. This can take place in a matter of a few days. We outranked 1,800,000 pages in a matter of 3 days after surveying what our competitors were doing and how they were put together.

ITS JOE VITALE - (without the big price tag !!)
Last year Joe Vitale came out with a big Hypnotic Marketing kit that had a hefty price tag. I must also point out that there was a very VERY limited time frame in which you could purchase it. Needless to say that when this thing hit the market they sold out in a matter of hours.
Every once in a while this kit will pop up on Ebay but not very often. Hypnotic Marketing was roughly $600 bucks to own. Now, I will say that it was definately WORTH IT. I have seen copies of it thanks to a caring associate.
But now his formula for writing powerful copy is here in a this handy $20 version !!! Now I admit, I AM A GEEK when it comes to marketing and i follow the likes of Dan Kennedy, Corey Rudl and Joe Vitale very closely. They make this entire marketing game fun and exciting. But what is really great about this book is that it is affordable. When I was getting started I would have been on cloud nine if I could get some answers like the ones printed in this book. I had a chance to thumb through it today and its a winner folks.
I have my own formula for getting to the "YES" and it takes roughly 9 steps. I always said that money was the final step. You have to build trust, believability and show some proof about what you can provide. From there on it is a matter of coming to a reasonable conclusion. But here it is again in a fresh format from millionaire maker Joe Vitale, Mr. Fire himself, giving you his very own power plays.
This was released this month. I would guess most likely this week. I check the marketing books pretty regulary and have never seen this before. This is pure candy -- that is to say, 100% usable marketing material.

Copywriting Essentials
HERE IS A FREE COPYWRITING SESSION JUST FOR YOU.....
I was cleaning out my internet Favorites list and came across this gem by Michel Fortin, the CopyDoctor. This is a really great onscreen video that spells out the basics of Copywriting. He works through a headline process and sets up a sales page. It moves pretty quick so you may want to take some notes.

Check that out its pretty good. The other thing is that he is using Camtasia to capture the visuals of what he is laying out on the screen which is nice.

COPYWRITING UPDATE: The Art Of Writing Like You Talk
You can talk about your products in the most conversational tone. Thats why I love copywriting. Its story telling and its frank and honest. In fact, the best part about copywriting is that you do not have to be fussing over what is correct or what is proper.
I have just gotten rid of a nasty sinus infection and I fell behind in quite a few of my appointments. In fact, I even put some of that into my sales letters. While I was laid up in bed I was still creating new products and services. I was planning, reading and thinking of ways to expand my market.
Now to those who already know me this is perfect. But for those who don't it comes off as very low key and honest. Can you imagine being locked away in your sick bed for days on end with nothing to do but plan and scheme with no interuptions? It may sound like a bit of a headache to some but for me it was sheer heaven!
It also gave me a chance to check out some blogs on Wired.... For those who never check out Wired its worth a look.....
http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/
Yahoo and EMI are partnering up in music these days:
http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/music/index.html
... and I was able to put these stories into my recent sales letters and share with prospects how they too can become part of this digital revolution. The response has been fantastic. Since everything you create can be tracked you really are in command of your own success.
Remember that copywriting doesn't have to be formal. In fact it should be far from it. Remember you are leading your reader through an experience and its the informal chat that is going to lead them into your offer.
Don't just throw a headline down and a price. Thats about as blunt as sticking a revolver in front of someones face for crikeys sake! Be tactful. Begin with a story. Any story. But better yet, make sure its your story!!
I had a client who missed my sales letters ! IN FACT, he pulled me aside and actually asked me to draft up one and make him a deal. He liked to be sold ! See?
IT WORKS. BE PRODUCTIVE.
But most of all be yourself.
