Ted Cantu: On Post 911, Misunderstandings, and Social Identity

There are a lot of things I need to clear up. I will not be able to do it in one shot. My essays on this subject are massive and it is multi dimensional. From a marketing perspective I want to stop the insipid misinterpretations of my work, my beliefs, and what I have been doing ever since I landed in this prison I call Detroit. As an Ex Art Director from Manhattan who actually lived near NY when the horrific 911 events played out I carry significant experience than someone in the Midwest who watched it from the comfort of their sofa.

I want to mention too that I found a lot of my research, (that was acquired through living experience in not in some best seller text book) taken out of context and used to propel certain Metro Detroit personalities.

The Law of Attraction Article That Spawned Clumsy Imposters
For starters I want to jump into a very specific quasi religious statement that I made regarding the, “Laws of Attraction”. It should be obvious to many that I sincerely wish that I never encountered this material. The statement appeared in an article that’s been floating around on the web….

http://www.chancermusic.com/what-is-there-to-look-forward-to-after-ldquothe-secretrdquo/

This is the infamous article I wrote that mentioned my belief that the brain was in fact a “magnet”. This is my OWN CONCLUSION and from the best I can tell it does not appear in any other books. I have come to this conclusion after spending significant time - TIME mind you – in Hindu temples, Jewish Synagogues, and reading the extensive works of one Hilton Hotema. Notice I did not mention, “The Secret” or the ever allusive Joe Vitale. Of course that author was one of many who spouted the wisdom of the law. But to my surprise there are many cosmic laws and this has led my studies into another direction. I did come to the rationale that the brain does emit and connect to cosmic frequencies.

I have also conducted experiments where I can actually project and move the physical directions of light weight objects simply by focusing and concentrating with my brain. I can actually make these objects spin to the right or to the left direction. I have made it a point to study this in great detail and to connect to a higher purpose. These findings are real.

In no time did I ever pontificate these findings with watered down Christian gospel from the King James Bible! How embarrassing to see my work and my quotes delivered in such a haphazard and ridiculous fashion. I was more embarrassed to see these marketing people tout themselves as experts in these findings.

As far as cosmic frequencies are concerned I have reasons to believe that these laws and the properties surrounding them have an inter-connectivity. They do in fact have a magnetic affect and the brain is part of that theory. But that is my own theory.

And I have come to that conclusion after studying extensive amounts of Judaism, and Hindu books and finding out as much as I could through cosmic law. This has taken me to some dubious sources that I am somewhat skeptical about. These include readings from the I AM group which was based in Chicago, (the extent of what I believe and what I question is another conversation).

My advice to those who find inspiration here is to not try to make a living being ME. I am ME. There is a significant difference between the two of us. Never forget that.

The Solidarity Thing Is Uninspired
Another weird area I want to clear up centers around my work ethic. I work alone. Period. I have people in my circle that I share projects with but I do not have to belong to the homogenous groups in Metro Detroit that do little more than steal ideas, plead for free services, and waste time in forgettable coffee houses. That being said I never share my SEO, (search engine optimization) results, or give in to sharing my advice free of charge.

I do not believe in networking and think it is a grandiose waste of time. So many networking groups in Metro Detroit offering the same thoughts, sentiments and ideology that it makes little sense to attend. There are people who do and do not. That is the extent of it. Either you go out and you sell your thing – whatever that may be – or you do not.

Quitting these groups has been somewhat difficult. I have asked several times for the ION GROUP to stop calling me and emailing me about their events and 2 years later I think they finally got the message. I was also disappointed to see that Motor City Connect was affiliated with this group and doing joint emails together. But the most depressing thing of all was seeing Motor City Connect pop up in my Shul in West Bloomfield, Michigan. To me, that was the lowest of the low moves.

There is a time for business and there is a time for worship. There is also a time for BNI and LBN and it would be nice to see those lines uncrossed. I did not enjoy having the Michigan business agenda forced down my throat in the spiritual setting. It was most unpleasant.

I finally got off the Motor City Connect website thanks to a much needed and much delayed quit button feature. This happened recently. And from the best of my knowledge I am finally off the ION GROUP beg and borrow club email list. It is unnecessary to see these groups pop up at every social function, (religious events included) and I can only stomach so much since I do not find them amusing, inspiring or believable.

I do not advocate real change for Detroit from the comfort and bullet free safety of Troy, Michigan. I on the other hand have a real working studio in Detroit on Mack street and risk my life doing the same things you people will not do. For what its worth I am also one of the only Caucasian guys on the street trying to stir up business and strive for social change. I risk it. You don’t. That places us worlds apart in the grand scheme of things. As a reward I shouldn’t have to listen to your chicken shit political agenda regarding real social change, impact or religious beliefs.

I will get to Heaven on my own. I hope you will get there too on your own terms. When and how you do it are not of great importance to me.

Also, in addition to your religious vomit I do not need to know what side of the political fence you stand on. This includes your heart felt policy on gun control or how you vote. I used to get a substantial amount of fun “emails” from these types that were slanted towards a particular belief system. I am not your pal or ally in this regard. Please, do not get confused. We are not in an Irish Pub at three in the morning. We are mere business associates that talk somewhat freely during business hours.

And as for your thoughts on 911 or what you think really happened I am not too interested – especially if you spent your entire life in Michigan. If you were never there to begin with I do not feel the need to waste my breath and debate with you.

The Next Inspired 911 Threat – Destination Chicago
It is also going to be difficult to really get into the Sears Tower plot. I do not believe in the Liberty City Seven, (the sordid tale of 5 unlucky guys) and their foiled plans to blow up the Sears Tower. This made news on CNN and in the New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/23/world/americas/23iht-terror.2038571.html This story did absolutely nothing to keep me out of the city of Chicago. Do not forget I, unlike most Americans, actually braved it out and lived in Chicago's south side at one part of my life, (although I am not proud of it). I remember seeing these guys on tv sitting in a rusted out shack getting stoned. These were supposed to be the new terrorists -- BULLSHIT I said, and I loaded up my car and went into the city anyways.

In fact, the weekend they were arrested I still went into the city to do business. It was on that very trip that I met the famous marketer, Derek Ghel. It was really business as usual for me. I am not going to get stung twice by this nonsense.

This feels better than a Catholic confession.

In short, I found living here to be completely exhausting. At times uninspiring. And as a reward I have seen my ideas stolen or attacked, (thats another great emotion) and I have seen my ideas missconstrued and plagiarized -- presented in public. My words to Detroit are quite simple. Get your own lives.... THIEVES.

My advice for all you Metro Detroiters is simple. Learn how to sell. Get your own experiences. Do not feel compelled to steal mine, live through me, emulate me, or do your best to be the best me. You have your own life to live. I do not think it is healthy to intermix our ideologies and thoughts after attending your events and wasting my time in your churches.

Experience, especially your own, is your best teacher.
